Mail thefts reported in county

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office has sent out a press release asking anyone in Osage County who has been a recent victim of mail theft from a mailbox and did not file a report with the sheriff’s office to do so.

“Most of them are out here northeast of Lyndon,” said Osage County Sheriff Laurie Dunn, noting the Topeka and surrounding Shawnee County area “have gotten hit hard.”

A current investigation has cleared several recent mail theft cases. If mail was taken while awaiting pick up, contact the sheriff’s office. Remember that placing mail in a mailbox with the flag up alerts criminals that there may be cash or checks. Dunn encouraged anyone mailing checks to drop them in a secured post office box.

To speak with an investigator about a report that has already been filed, contact the sheriff’s office at (785) 828-3121.
