Calvin “Fred” Rosetta

November 5, 1941 – February 22, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Calvin “Fred” Rosetta, 75, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Fred was born November 5, 1941 north of Osage City on the Rosetta Farm. He was the son of Victor F. Sr. and May Kinney Rosetta. He attended Osage City High School and graduated with the Class of 1960.

Greg P. Dorr

June 7, 1949 – February 21, 2017

BALDWIN CITY — Greg P. Dorr, 67, Ottawa, Kansas, passed away February 21, 2017, at Baldwin City.

He was born June 7, 1949, at Emporia, Kansas, the son of Walter Dale and Geraldine Davis Dorr. He grew up in Burlingame, and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1967. He also attended Mesa Community College, Mesa, Arizona for two years.

Karen Lee (Bowin) Horinek

July 3, 1959 – February 23, 2017

ATWOOD — Karen Lee (Bowin) Horinek, 57, of Atwood, passed away February 23, 2017. She was born on July 3, 1959 in Emporia, Kan. To Rufus and Irene (Harris) Bowin-Leech. She was the youngest of four children.

Karen was raised in Osage City, Kan. and graduated high school in 1977. Karen joined the Air National Guard in 1978 and was honorably discharged in 1994 as a Master Sargent.

Elaine (Peggy) Lindsay Christesen

October 25, 1931 – February 22, 2017

SPRINGFIELD, Va. – Elaine Lindsay Christesen of Springfield, Va., passed away peacefully in the presence of family at Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, Va.

Connie Diamond

December 7, 1942 – February 21, 2017

COLUMBUS, Neb. — Connie Jo Diamond died Feb. 21 at the Cottonwood House in Columbus. She was 74.

Elizabeth Jane Meek

February 1, 1922 – February 17, 2017

OVERBROOK — Elizabeth Jane Meek, 95, formerly of Carbondale, passed away on Feb 17 at Brookside Manor in Overbrook.

She was born February 1, 1922, at Bogard, Missouri the daughter of Bertrand F. and Mary L. (Redding) Isaacs.

She was a charter member of Grace Bible Church in Topeka. Elizabeth was a baker, working in food service at the VA Hospital in Topeka.

Elizabeth was married to R. L. “Jake” Meek on Oct. 21, 1953 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Jake died March 2, 1993.

Ida Mae Carlson Weltha

Ida Mae Carlson Weltha passed away after a long battle from the effects of dementia. She was with her family and staff at her home, Hillside Village Skilled Care Facility in DeSoto.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 22 at First Baptist Church, Reading. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Burial will follow services at the Reading Cemetery.

Robert D. “Bob” Kopp

Nov. 23, 1925 – Feb. 10, 2017

TOPEKA — Robert D. “Bob” Kopp, formerly of Harveyville, died Feb. 10, 2017, at a Topeka hospital. He was 91.

He was born Nov. 23, 1925, at Topeka, the son of Walter C. and Ethel E. Hendrickson Kopp. He graduated from Harveyville High School and was a member of the U.S. Army where he served during World War II.

He was an electrician from 1951 until his retirement, a proud member of Union Local 226, avid bowler and loved golf where he achieved two holes in one.

Max L. Hallgren

Dec. 11, 1935 – Feb. 9, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Max L. Hallgren, Osage City, died February 9, 2017, at his home. He was 81.

He was born Dec. 11, 1935, at Republic, the son of Lloyd L. and Ruth Alta Bell Hallgren. He graduated from Republic High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army.

He worked as a rural mail carrier until his retirement. He loved woodworking, especially making wood toys.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Anita Faulkner

Feb. 28, 1940 – Feb. 7, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Anita Faulkner died Feb. 7, 2017, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 76.

She was born Feb. 28, 1940, on the family farm near Melvern, the daughter of Oscar and Hazel Goldsmith Beck. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1958.

She lived in Lyndon before moving to Osage City where she has lived for the last 40 years. She worked as a sales clerk for Venture, Topeka, and then for Jerry's Thriftway, Osage City.
