Helen Louise Hendricks

POTWIN - Helen Louise Hendricks, long-time resident of Potwin, died Aug. 1, 2018 from a brief illness, surrounded by her children and other family. She was 88.

She was born June 3, 1930, at Wichita, the daughter of Emil (Howard) and Florence Ruth Henderson. She attended Potwin High School.

She married Norris "Jim" Hendricks, June 10, 1947. They were married 61 years before Jim's death in 2008.

Betty Jean Standiferd

Nov. 6, 1923 – July 31, 2018

OSAGE CITY — Betty Jean Standiferd, Lebo, died Tuesday, July 31, 2018, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 94.

She was born Nov. 6, 1923, at Lebo, the daughter of William Fred and Laura Myonette Rutledge Rosine. She attended the Sunny Knoll District No. 18 Country School through the eighth grade. She graduated from Lebo High School with the class of 1941.

Bruce Wayne Akins

April 24, 1950 – July 30, 2018

TOPEKA — Bruce Wayne Akins died July 30, 2018, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 68.

He was born April 24, 1950, at Ann Arbor, Mich., the son of Keith and Reeta Akins. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Allied-Signal, Phoenix, Ariz.; Payless ShoeSource, Topeka; and Flint Hills Construction, Topeka.

John David Jenkins

Feb. 26, 1973 – July 17, 2018

OSAGE CITY — John David Jenkins died Tuesday, July 17, 2018, at his home. He was 45.

He was born Feb. 26, 1973, the son of Clifford and Jolene Jenkins. They survive.

He grew up in Osage City and lived there his whole life. He worked for Branine Motors and A&R Auto for the majority of his career.

He married Stacie Franzen Bolyard October 1994. They later divorced. He was then in a relationship with Koleen Tumbleson Crumbly, which later ended. He was engaged to Angela Pickens.

Becky Jo Ard

Sept. 7, 1953 – July 6, 2018

LEAVENWORTH — Becky Jo Ard, Leavenworth, died Friday, July 6, 2018, with her family by her side. She was 64.

She was born Sept. 7, 1953, at Harveyville, the daughter of Dale and Lora Thompson Crisler.

She married Allen. K. Ard May 28, 1977, at Harveyville, on her parent’s farm. He survives of the home.

She was active and lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed mowing, fishing and four wheeling. Her four grandchildren were her true passion.

Nadine V. Bristow

Oct. 11, 1920 – July 14, 2018

BURLINGAME — Nadine V. Bristow died July 14, 2018. She was 97.

She was born Oct. 11, 1920, at Burlingame, the daughter of Henry W. And Naomi K. Snyder Bumford.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19 at Amos Family Funeral Home. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 20 at Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame.

George Hokanson

Feb. 6, 1951 – July 15, 2018

TOPEKA — George Hokanson, Osage City, died Sunday, July 15, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 67,

He was born Feb. 6, 1951, at Osage City, the son of Clarence and Freda Allison Hokanson. He grew up in Osage City and also lived in Dodge City and Hays before returning to Osage City several years ago.

He worked most of his life as a truck driver. He was a member of the Free Tomorrow Motorcycle Club, Hays.

He married Ivy Reed Oct. 31, 1980, at Hays. She survives of the home.

Margie L. Murphy

Died – July 13, 2018

TOPEKA — Margie L. (Dean Campbell) Murphy, Quenemo, died Friday July 13, 2018, at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. She was 91.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard P. Murphy Sr.; two brothers, Carl and Kenneth Dean; and a daughter, Vickie (Campbell) Davisson; and a son-in-law, Dan Thompson.

Norman Lee Bloomquist

TOPEKA — Norman Lee Bloomquist, Burlingame, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 85.

Margaret House

March 17, 1927 – July 11,2018

TOPEKA — Margaret House, 91, died Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her home in Topeka. She was 91.

She was born March 17, 1927, at Blytheville, Ark., the daughter of Albert and Margaret Golden Shearer. She lived in the Vassar, Lyndon and Topeka communities since 1964.

She was an owner and bookkeeper for Washburn Optical and then later did seamstress work. She was a member of the Quivira Heights Church of Christ.

She married Robert House May 1, 1946, at Pacific Grove, Calif. To this union three children were born.
