Charles Heilman

Died Jan. 23, 2017

OSAGE CITY—Charles “Chuck” Heilman died Jan. 23, 2017, at Osage Nursing Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was 94.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lillian “Billie” Heilman; two daughters, Connie Masenthin and Karen West and husband, Dwight; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation for Chuck will be 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 29 at Feltner Funeral Chapel, Lyndon.

Robert H. Smith

Jan. 16, 2017

SHAWNEE—Robert H. Smith, 75, died Jan. 16, 2017 at his home in Shawnee. He was 75.

He taught Social Studies at Lyndon High School for several years.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at Cross Points Church, 6824 Lackman Rd., Shawnee. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until service time on Friday.

Billie L. Nedeau

October 14, 1944 – January 17, 2017

Osage City – Billie L. Nedeau, 72, passed away Jan. 17, 2017 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on Oct. 14, 1944 in Kingman, Kansas the daughter of Harold and Rosalia Smith O'Leary.

Billie had lived around the country as an Air Force wife and had been in Topeka for a several years before moving east of Osage City in 1989.

Lyle Keith Gilkey

July 21, 1939 – Jan. 1, 2017

OVERBROOK—Lyle Keith Gilkey died Jan. 1, 2017, at his home west of Overbrook. He was 77.

He was born July 21, 1939, at Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Lyle and Jeraldine Gentry Gilkey. He lived in rural Overbrook for over 20 years, having moved from Whittier, Calif.

He was a sales supervisor and manager for Sparkletts Drinking Water Company in California and was a cattle rancher near Overbrook. He was a member of the Grace Community Church in Overbrook.

Glenna Clarene Dehn

Aug. 5, 1931 – Dec. 31, 2016

TOPEKA—Glenna Clarene Dehn ascended into the arms of Jesus Dec. 31, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 85.

She was born Aug. 5, 1931, at Abilene, the daughter of Harold and Avis Kready Fagan. She lived around the Lyndon community until moving to Topeka in 1973.

She graduated from Quenemo High School in 1948 and attended business school.

Kenneth F. Kern

July 7, 1930 – Jan. 1, 2017

ARKANSAS CITY—Kenneth F. Kern, Arkansas City, formerly of Osage City, died Jan. 1, 2017, at South Central Kansas Medical Center, Arkansas City. He was 86.

He was born July 7, 1930, at Washington, the son of Frank and Gertrude Neumann Kern. He grew up on the family farm near Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1948.

He graduated from Kansas State University in January 1953 with a degree in agricultural education and a commission as Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.

Ruth Marie McGinnis

Jan. 23, 1925 – Dec. 28, 2016

OVERBROOK—Ruth Marie McGinnis, Overbrook, died Dec. 28, 2016, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 91.

She was born Jan. 23, 1925, at Omaha, Neb., the daughter of John Ellis Mann and Nina Jessie Hightower Mann.

They moved to a farm in the rural Carbondale area in 1957. They moved to Overbrook in 2000. She worked for Jostens in Topeka as a yearbook assembler for 10 years. They attended Overbrook Bible Church, Overbrook.

Sandra E. Brooks Middleton

Aug. 31, 1970 – Dec. 28, 2016

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Sandra E. Brooks Middleton, Grain Valley, Mo., died Dec. 28, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. She was 46.

She was born Aug. 31, 1970, at Topeka, and lived most of her life in the Scranton community. She graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in 1989 and attended Culinary School to become a chef.

She was preceded in death by grandparents, Vernon and Shirley Berkley.

Virgil E. Kinnett

Jan. 26, 1032 – Dec. 28, 2016

SCRANTON—Virgil E. Kinnett, Scranton, died Dec. 28, 2016. He was 84.

He was born Jan. 26, 1932, at Overbrook, the son of Perry Franklin and Louise Job Kinnett.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kinnett; two sons, Jerry Kinnett and wife, Sue and Carl Kinnett; a daughter Karen Born and husband, Riley; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

He was cremated. Services will be held at a later date.

Celesta M. Clark

July 17, 1921 – Dec. 26, 2016

OVERBROOK—Celesta M. Clark, Overbrook, died Dec. 26, 2016, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 95.

She was born July 17, 1921, on a farm near the Twin Mound community the daughter of Elmer and Vivian Q. Cox Thurber.

She attended a one-room school at Twin Mounds and graduated from high school at Overbrook in 1939. She graduated from Iola Jr. College and taught school at Old Belvoir, south west of Clinton.
