James Kent Rittenhouse

OSAGE CITY — James Kent Rittenhouse, Hanston, died July 15, 2017, at Osage City. He was 74.

He was born Aug. 1, 1942, at Great Bend, the son of N. James and Grace McNabney Rittenhouse. He grew up on the family farm northeast of Hanston, and graduated from Hanston High School in 1960, before attending college at Kansas State University and Fort Hays State University.

Betty Pressgrove

June 11, 1925 – July 14, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Betty Pressgrove died Friday, July 14, 2017, at Peterson Nursing Home, Osage City. She was 92.

She was born June 11, 1925, at Barclay, the only daughter of Louis and Gladys Walker Thompson. She grew up around Osage City, lived north of Lyndon for several years and had been back in Osage City since 2012.

She worked for a short time at Hallmark Cards in Osage City, and was a homemaker most all of her life. She attended the Osage City United Methodist Church.

Raymond W. Fisher

Feb. 11, 1952 – July 8, 2017

READING — Raymond William Fisher, Reading, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday, July 8, 2017. He was 65.

He was born Feb. 11, 1952, at Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, the son of Raymond Alfred and Elsie Hiemstra Fisher. He attended rural schools in Mahaska County and graduated from Fremont, Iowa, High School in 1970.

Philip J. Davis

Dec. 8, 1928 – July 5, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Philip J. Davis, Burlingame, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Peterson Health Center, Osage City. He was 88.

He was born Dec. 8, 1928, at Melvern, the son of Philip and Bertha Cass Davis. He retired from the State of Kansas as a stationary boiler fireman at the Youth Center in Topeka.

He enjoyed fishing, square dancing and clogging. He was a member of the Kountry Kuzzins Square Dancers and the Sunflower State Cloggers.

David R. Blex

April 21, 1954 – July 5, 2017

TOPEKA — David R. Blex, loving father, brother and friend, passed away July 5, 2017, at Midland Hospice Care, Topeka. He was 63.

He was born April 21, 1954, at Emporia, the son of Don and Betty Roberts Blex. He held a deep love for his home community of Miller and served on the volunteer fire department for many years.

Tracy Dean Ullery

Tracy Dean Ullery, 51, Overbrook, passed away from complications from cancer on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at a Topeka hospital.
He was born June 27, 1966, at Topeka, KS, the son of George Dale and Joyce (Rowe) Ullery. He graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School in 1984.
Tracy's passion was driving semi-trucks. He started his driving career after he finished truck driving school shortly after high school. Tracy was a dedicated long time employee and truck driver for the Ottawa Cooperative in Overbrook.

Joseph Leroy Driver

October 21, 1928-June 29, 2017
TOPEKA- Joseph Leroy Driver passed from this world on June 29, 2017, at Lexington Park in Topeka.
Joe was born October 21, 1928 in Quenemo, to Roy and Hannah (Windett) Driver. Joe graduated from Quenemo High School in 1946. He joined the Army in November of 1951 and was honorably discharged in October of 1953, after serving in the Korean Conflict.

George W. McMullen, Jr.

March 29, 1936-June 23, 2017

George W. McMullen, Jr., 81, of Osage City, died Friday, June 23, 2017 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka.

He was born March 29, 1936 in Topeka, the son of George W. McMullen, Sr. and Bertha Morris McMullen. He graduated from Denison High School.

He served in the U.S. Army for seventeen years where he was a heavy equipment mechanic. After his retirement from the military he worked as a fork lift mechanic for various companies.

Margaret Bardsley

December 17, 1915-June 20, 2017

Margaret Bardsley, 101, formerly of Scranton, passed away June 20, 2017, in Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kansas.

Margaret was born December 14, 1915, to Mable (Fry) and Clarence Elliott. She married George M. Bardsley in 1932, beginning a lifetime together that lasted 79 years. George preceded her in death in 2011. She also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Clarence L. Elliott and Donald E. Elliott; a son, Robert Wayne Bardsley; three grandsons, Perry King, George W. Bardsley and David Peaslee.
