Earl Hawkins

Oct. 5, 1918 – May 11, 2014

TOPEKA—Earl “Jack” Hawkins, Scranton, died May 11, 2014, at Midland Hospice, Topeka. He is 95.

He was born Oct. 5, 1918, at Grenola, the son of Howard and Ora Logsdon Hawkins. He lived many years in Topeka, then in Siloam Springs, Ark., and lived in Scranton for the last 19 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific. He worked in a flour mill in Topeka. He attended Grace Community Church, Overbrook.

He married Thelma Smith Oct. 18, 1946, at Ft. Smith, Ark. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2008.

Clifford Peter Hudson

March 26, 1943 – May 6, 2014

TOPEKA—Clifford Peter Hudson, Osage City, died May 6, 2014, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 71.

He was born March 26, 1943, at Prairie du Chien, Wis., the son of Clifford Leroy and Helen Catherine Mikel Hudson.

He had worked as a welder and mechanic on highway and heavy equipment until medical retirement in 1983.

He married Rachael Satterfield Aug. 17, 1969, at Englewood, Colo. She survives of the home. Nine years ago, they moved to Osage City from Louviers, Colo.

Wilson Duane Renyer

Aug. 21, 1933 – May 4, 2014

TOPEKA—Wilson Duane “Willie” Renyer, Wakarusa, died May 4, 2014, at Topeka. He was 80.

He was born Aug. 21, 1933, on the family farm near Auburn, the son of Elbert Lee and Blanche Dickson Renyer. He grew up in the Auburn community and graduated from Auburn High School in 1951.

Kim Michelle Cousin

Dec. 23,1960 – May 5, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Kim Michelle Cousin died May 5, 2014, at her parent’s home in Osage City. She was 53.

She was born Dec. 23, 1960, at Emporia, the daughter of Donald “Ike” Dayne and Kay Anna Curley Garland. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1979.

She worked as an pharmaceutical benefits representative for Veterans Administration in Topeka.

She married Marvin M. Cousin June 22, 1990. They divorced in 2011.

She was a member of Flint Hills Baptist Church, Osage City.

Lela Helen Schmidtberger

April 22, 1933 – May 2, 2014

TOPEKA—Lela Helen Schmidtberger, Madison, formerly of Burlingame, died May 2, 2014, at Midland Care Hospice, Topeka. She was 81.

She was born April 22, 1933, at Williamsburg, the daughter of Granville L. and Ethel Marie McMurdo Griffin. She was a homemaker.

She married Lavern Joseph Schmidtberger, Nov. 22, 1956, at Burlingame. He survives of the home.

Beverly "Bev" S. Wilkin

Feb. 5, 1914 – Feb. 22, 2014

OVERBROOK—Beverly “Bev” S. Wilkin, Burlingame, died Feb. 22, 2014, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. He was 100.

He was born Feb. 5, 1914, at Burlingame, the son of Glen C. and Lola Beverly Wilkin. He graduated eighth grade and later worked on the farm.

He married Elizabeth Jackson in 1938. She preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2009.

Zona Kaye McKinsey

Nov. 17, 1946 – April 30, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Zona “Kaye” McKinsey, Osage City, died April 30, 2014 at Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Osage City, Kansas. She was 67.

A memorial service was held May 3 at Salt Creek Lighthouse Church, Lyndon. Her ashes will be buried in Osage City American Cemetery.

Charles L. Woodmas

Nov. 1, 1925 – April 28, 2014

TOPEKA—Charles L. Woodmas, Lyndon, died April 28, 2014, at Topeka hospital. He was 88.

He was born Nov. 1, 1925, on the family farm near Melvern, the son of Chester and Emma McDonald Woodmas.

He lived most of his life on the family farm until moving to Lyndon several years ago. He farmed all of his life and also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for a time and for Albert Swallow Construction in Pomona.

Madge Lee Pannell

Dec. 11, 1931 – April 26, 2014

TOPEKA—Madge “Mama Lee” Crouch Pannell, died April 26, 2014, at a Topeka hospital. She was 82.

She was born Dec. 11, 1931, at Hector, Ark., the daughter of Fannie Crouch and Herbert Kelley.

She married Eugene Pannell July 30, 1948.

She owned and operated several taverns in Wichita and Burlingame. In later years, she cleaned commercial buildings and houses. For a short time, she operated a small second hand store, “Mama Lee’s Gently Used New and Old.”

Virginia P. Spencer

June 14, 1920 – April 19, 2014

TOPEKA—Virginia P. Spencer, Topeka, formerly of Harveyville, died April 19, 2014, at Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka. She was 93.

She was born June 14, 1920, at Harveyville, the daughter of Preston Riley and Dollie Bertha Smith Akers. She attended school in Dover and later in Harveyville, where she graduated from Harveyville High School in 1938.
