Virginia P. Spencer

June 14, 1920 – April 19, 2014

TOPEKA—Virginia P. Spencer, Topeka, formerly of Harveyville, died April 19, 2014, at Midland Care Hospice House, Topeka. She was 93.

She was born June 14, 1920, at Harveyville, the daughter of Preston Riley and Dollie Bertha Smith Akers. She attended school in Dover and later in Harveyville, where she graduated from Harveyville High School in 1938.

Irene Tucker

Jan. 18, 1927 – April 29, 2014

TOPEKA—Irene Tucker died April 20, 2014, at Aldersgate Village, Topeka. She was 87.

She was born Jan. 18, 1927, at Vassar, the daughter of Lewis and Merle Myrick Ogle. She lived in Topeka since 1995, but had lived in the Vassar and Lyndon communities’ prior.

She worked for Hallmark Cards for five years, did wallpaper upholstery with Florence Montgomery for several years and had been a bus driver for Lyndon schools for 23 years.

Kathryn Marie Snyder

Oct. 27, 1939 – April 19, 2014

TOPEKA—Kathryn Marie Snyder, Topeka, formerly of rural Overbrook, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2014. She was 74.

She was born Oct. 27, 1939, the daughter of A.L. and Ruth Marie Conley Kingery. She was raised near rural Centropolis. A 1957 graduate of Appanoose High School, she was a cheerleader and salutatorian of her graduating class.

She married Ivan Duane Snyder Nov. 2, 1957, at Ottawa. He died in 2002.

She enjoyed gardening and being a devoted and hardworking farm wife and horsewoman alongside her husband.

Dreu Alan Smith

March 29, 1960 – April 17, 2014

PAOLA—Dreu Alan Smith, Paola, died April 17, 2014, at his home. He was 54.

He was born March 29, 1960, at Ottawa, the son of Paul F. and Elaine E. Cutuska Smith. He grew up in Lyndon, graduating from Lyndon High School in 1978.

During his high school years, he worked for local grocery stores. He moved to Paola in 1981 and began working for Queens Price Chopper. He continued his career as a meat cutter in Paola for 32 years.

Sylvia Faye Flint

Nov. 30, 1916 – April 12, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Sylvia Faye Flint, Lyndon, died April 12, 2014, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 97.

She was born Nov. 30, 1916, at Lyndon, the daughter of Austin and Tillie Jensen Stitt. She graduated from Lyndon High School in 1934 and attended Strickler Business College.

She worked for the Osage County Welfare Department for many years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Lyndon and Osage City, where she was Worthy Matron.

Lauren Merle Boggs

July 7, 1938 – April 11, 2014

OVERBROOK—Lauren “Larry” Merle Boggs, Overbrook, died at home April 11, 2014. He was 75.

He was born July 7, 1938, at Preston, the son of Arthur J. and Gladys Wonder Boggs. He graduated from Preston High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in March 1958.

He married Janet Knowles July 26, 1958, at Rantoul, Ill. She survives.

C.W. Bill Coons

Nov. 27, 1946 – April 2, 2014

TOPEKA—C.W. “Bill” Coons, Osage City, died April 2, 2014, at a Topeka hospital. He was 67.

He was born Nov. 27, 1946, at Topeka, the only child of Cloyce and Edith Schmitendorf Coons. He grew up in Lyndon and lived in Osage City most of his married life.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1966 to 1970. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a section hand and machine operator.

He married Cheryl McCue April 29, 1972. She survives.

Sue Payne

July 18, 1955 – April 3, 2014

TOPEKA—Sue Payne, Osage City, died April 3, 2014, at a Topeka hospital. She was 58.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. April 9 at Osage City Cemetery.

Ruth Ann Jewell Hittle

Oct. 22, 1941 – April 5, 2014

OVERBROOK—Ruth Ann Jewell Hittle died April 5, 2014, at her home with the assistance of Grace Hospice. She was 72.

She was born Oct. 22, 1941, at Tipton the daughter of Charles Milton and Vaughn Hazel McCormick Jewell.

She married Bernard Hittle Jr. Oct. 22, 1959, at Whiting. He survives.

Dale W. Adams

Aug. 6, 1951 – April 1, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Dale W. “Big D” Adams, 62, Osage City, died April 1, 2014. He was 62.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. April 5 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka.
