David J. Swaim

March 12, 1957 - March 7, 2014)

TOPEKA—Staff and students at Santa Fe Trail, USD #434, of Carbondale, were saddened to learn of the death of their high school principal David J. Swaim. He died Friday, March 7, 2014, at his home in south Topeka. He was 56.

William Robert Dunn

Aug. 24, 1927 – March 6, 2014

TOPEKA—William Robert “Bob” Dunn, Topeka, died March 6, 2014. He was 86.

He was born Aug. 24, 1927, at Burlingame, the son of John and Mary Smith Dunn. After graduating from Burlingame High School in 1945, he joined the Merchant Marines and traveled the world. He was drafted into the Army and served from 1950-1952.

William A. Mathieu

Aug 26, 1920 – Jan 15, 2014

MIDWEST CITY, Okla.—William A. Mathieu died Jan. 15, 2014. He was 93.

Services will be 11 a.m. March 15 at the Osage City Cemetery .

Robert E. Herrick

March 1, 2014

BURLINGAME—Robert E. Herrick, Burlingame, died March 1, 2014, at his home. He was 60.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Hittle and a brother, Jerry Herrick.

He is survived by three daughters, Jackie Handlowich, Melinda Herrick and April Herrick; four sons, Michael Herrick, Nathan Herrick, Robert Herrick and Joseph Herrick; four sisters, Margaret Watts, Marie Preston, Nancy Simpson and Catherine Graham; three brothers, John Herrick, Hank Herrick and Melvin Herrick; and a special friend, Terri Masters.

Emma Ruth Shultz

Aug. 20, 2005 – March 2, 2014

BURLINGAME—Emma Ruth Shultz, Burlingame, died March 2, 2014, at her home in Burlingame. She was 8.

She was born Aug. 20, 2005, at Topeka, the daughter of Brett and Gina Ames Shultz. She had lived in Burlingame all of her life and was a member of the Burlingame Federated Church.

Kelsey Rae Gordon

Oct. 27, 1994 – March 1, 2014

COFFEY COUNTY—Kelsey Rae Gordon, Osage City, died March 1, 2014, in Coffey County. She was 19.

She was born Oct. 27, 1994, at Ottawa. She graduated from Osage City High School in 2013. She was a member of Osage City Baptist Temple. She had attended Ft. Scott Community College for a semester to be a beautician.

Juanita Jean Good Reutter

July 17, 1929 – March 2, 2014

GREGORY, S.D.—Juanita Jean Good Reutter left to join her husband and daughter and other family members March 2, 2014. She was 84.

She was born July 17, 1929, in Bennett County, S.D., the third of 10 children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; a daughter, Charlotte; her parents, Robert “Bob” and Velma Sharp Good; a sister, Maxine King; and four brothers, Thomas, Garold, Robert and Loren “John.”

Warda Mae Gilbert

Nov. 2, 1918 - Feb. 25, 2014

OMAHA—Warda Mae (Powell) Gilbert passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, in Omaha, Neb. She was 95 years old.

Warda was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick, and her brothers, Robert and William Powell. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara of Evergreen, Colo., her granddaughters Laura, Jennifer and Michelle, and her great-grandchildren Zane, Jack, Norah May, James, Liana, Corbin & Ashley, of Colorado.

Edith M. Stowe

Aug. 27, 1923 – Feb. 20, 2014

TOPEKA—Edith May (Cropp) Stowe, 90, of Topeka, died Feb. 20, 2014.

Edith was born on Aug. 27, 1923, in northern Lyon County, near Miller Kansas, the daughter of James Albert and Nellie Elizabeth Atkins Cropp. She graduated from eighth grade in Osage County, Kansas.

Edith worked at the Remington Army Ammunition Plant during WWII and for Packing Products Inc. in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Willis Ernest Stowe on June 12, 1959. He died on Jan. 27, 1980.

James S. Stinebaugh

Sept. 29, 1925 – Feb. 26, 2014

QUENEMO—James S. Stinebaugh, Quenemo, died Feb. 26, 2014. He was 88.

He was born Sept. 29, 1925, at Princeton, the son of Elmer E. and Ava Morris Stinebaugh. He graduated from Princeton High school in 1943.

He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corp, April 1944, now known as the U.S. Air Force. He achieved the rank of corporal, was decorated with a World War II Victory Medal, and received an honorable discharge on April 21, 1948.
