Harriet Lucille Meneley

July 18, 1923 – May 25, 2014

QUENEMO—Harriet Lucille Meneley died May 25, 2014, at her home in Quenemo. She was 90.

She was born July 18, 1923, at Melvern, the daughter of Jesse and Hallenne Beck Goldsmith. She lived in Melvern most of her life and had been in Quenemo for the last 15 years.

She owned and operated Melvern Drug Store and Sundry for several years and also worked eight years at IBP in Emporia and as a security guard at Wolf Creek Nuclear Plant. She was a member of the Melvern United Methodist Church.

Lois Nadine Wagner

Feb. 27, 1937—May 18, 2014

MELVERN—Lois Nadine Wagner died May 18 at her home in Melvern. She was 77.

She was born Feb. 27, 1937 at Topeka, the daughter of Willard and Margaret Kelch Sims.

She lived in Burlingame for many years before moving to Melvern four years ago.

She was a seamstress, working at the Burlingame Sewing Factory for many years and then at the Venture department store. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church at Vassar.

She married William Dean Wagner Sept. 15, 1952, at Topeka. He preceded her in death April 18, 1973.

Ludella "Susie" McCann

April 12, 1925 – May 22, 2014

LYNDON—Ludella "Susie" McCann, died May 22 at a Topeka hospital. She was 89.

She was born on April 12, 1925 at Quenemo, the daughter of Ludell and Cora Leonard Stitt.

She grew up in Lyndon and Eskridge and had also lived in Topeka and Tucson, Ariz.

She was a homemaker most of her life and was also a member of the Good Sams Camping Club.

She married Weldon Perry. They later divorced. She married James “Jim” McCann Sept. 4, 1984. He survives of the home.

Loyola Catherine Hutchison

1926 – May 14, 2014

TOPEKA—Loyola Catherine Hutchison, Scranton, passed away May 14 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was 87.

Loyola was born in Valley Falls in 1926, the daughter of Raymond Edward and Agatha (Schulte) Turner. Loyola moved with her family to Ottawa in 1932.

Charlotte Marie Taylor

Oct. 28, 1943 – May 20, 2014

MILLER—Charlotte Marie Taylor passed away May 20 at her home in Miller. She was 70.

She was born Oct. 28, 1943 in Tonopah, Nev., the daughter of Virgil Leander and Mary Madolene McCallister Bays.

Charlotte was joined in marriage to William “Tom” Taylor on May 1, 1980 in Chula Vista, Calif. They spent the early years of their marriage traveling with Tom during his naval career. They settled in their current home near Miller in 1996.

Christene G. Ford

Aug. 1, 1926 – May 20, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Christene G. Ford died May 20, 2014, at Peterson Nursing Home, Osage City. She was 87.

She was born Aug. 1, 1926, at Evergreen, Texas, the daughter of Sherman H. and Elizabeth Lillard Risner.

She married Joe Herman Ford, Dec. 23, 1944, at Kountze, Texas. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2011.

They traveled a lot during the early years of their marriage due to his occupation as a logger. They settled down in Osage City in 1968.

OSAGE CITY—Margaret Ordonez, Osage City, died May, 18, 2014, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 63.

IOWA CITY, Iowa— Mary Frances Nicolay Ryan, Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Lyndon, died March 10, 2014. She was 94.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. May 31 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4525 N.W. Button Rd., Topeka.

Lois Jean Kendall

Nov. 6, 1950 – May 17, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Lois Jean “Jeanie” Kendall, Osage City, died May 17, 2014. She was 63.

She was born Nov. 6, 1950, at Fowler, the daughter of the late Bernard Marvin and Alice Mae Salmon Hoffman. After graduating from Fowler High School, she attended Emporia State University and earned a degree in education.

She married Brooke Kendall Nov. 3, 2003, at Baldwin. He survives.

Leona Mae Shaffer

Sept. 1, 1923 – May 15, 2014

WICHITA—Leona Mae Shaffer, Burlingame, departed this life May 15, 2014, at Wichita, with her sons at her side. She was 90.

She was born Sept. 1, 1923, at Melvern, the daughter of Edward and Annie Knight. She attended Melvern public schools and graduated in 1941 as a honor student.

She married Ray W. Shaffer Nov. 29, 1940, at Burlington. He preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 1983.
