Nicholas Thompson

Aug. 21, 1998 – Jan. 11, 2014

TOPEKA—Nicholas "Lil' Nick" Thompson, 15, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Topeka. He was born on August 21, 1998 in Topeka.

Nick had lived in Topeka and Lyndon most of his life. He was a freshman at Topeka West High School.

Nick was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Cox, and a step sister, Michelle Perkins.

Lee Dodson

April 20, 1924 – Dec. 21, 2013

TOPEKA—Lee Dodson, 89, Topeka, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, December 21st, with his family by his side.

Lee was born on April 20, 1924, to Stokes and Beulah Emerson Dodson on a farm north of Carbondale. He grew up until age 7 in Carbondale, Richland and Scranton before moving to Topeka where he graduated from Topeka High School in 1942. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education with a major in History. He later earned both a Masters and Doctorate Degree from the University of Kansas.

Diana Lynn Foiles

July 3, 1961 – Jan. 5, 2014

Lyndon—Diana Lynn Foiles, 52, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at her home in Lyndon. She was born on July 3, 1961, in Sedan.

Diana grew up in Grenola and had lived in Emporia and Winfield before moving to Lyndon in 2001.

She graduated from Central Burden High School in 1979 and attended Southwestern College at Winfield and Labette Community College. She was a Zone Manager at the Wal-Mart Store in Ottawa. She was a member of the Lyndon United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and helped with the Methodist Youth Group.

Francis Tyrell

June 8, 1923 – Jan. 6, 2014

TOPEKA—Francis “Fritz” Tyrell, formerly of Lyndon, died Jan. 6, 2014, at a Topeka hospital. He was 90.

He was born June 8, 1923, at Talmage, the son of Benjamin and Margaret Curran Tyrell.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1944. He served in the European Theater during World War II and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. After his discharge, he worked at Wissin Motor Company in Abilene as an auto mechanic and later owned and operated Wakefield Marina on Milford Lake.

Frances Shaw Thompson

April 4, 1921–Dec. 29, 2013

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.—Frances Shaw Thompson died Dec. 29, 2013, at Sea Cliff Healthcare, Huntington Beach, Calif. She was 92.

The night before she passed away, she told the night nurse “Tell everyone I love them. I am praying that God will take me home.”

She was born April 4, 1921, at Scranton, the daughter of Maude Sloop and James Elmer Shaw.

Donald Henton

Aug. 13, 1920 ¬– Jan. 5, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Donald Henton, Osage City, died Jan. 5, 2014, at his home. He was 93.

He was born Aug. 13, 1920, at Emporia, the daughter of John and Linnie Reser Henton. He attended Emporia grade schools and graduated from Melvern High School in 1938.

He married Ella Lee Hulse July 5, 1941. They were married 62 years until her death on May 6, 2004.

Dorothy M. Dale

Aug. 6, 1923 – Jan. 5, 2014

TOPEKA—Dorothy M. Dale, Topeka, died Jan. 5, 2014. She was 90.

She was born Aug. 6, 1923, at Garnett, the daughter of Thomas Riley and Fawnita Thompson Root. She was a graduate of Garnett High School.

She was retired from Dillard’s Department Store, Topeka.

She was a member of the Highland Park Christian Church and American Business Women’s Association.

She married Kenneth Dale Sept. 28, 1941, at Kansas City. He preceded her in death in October 1990.

Leroy Smith

July 21, 1936 - Jan. 3, 2014

PERRY—Leroy Smith died Jan. 3, 2014, at his home in Perry. He was 77.

He was born July 21, 1936, at Melvern, the son of Stanton and Maggie Adolph Smith. He grew up in Melvern, and moved to Lyndon in 1958. He lived in Lyndon until two years ago when he moved to Perry.

Michael L. Seyler

Oct. 6, 1963 – Dec. 19, 2013

ST. LOUIS, Mo.—Michael L. Seyler died Dec. 19, 2013, in St. Louis, Mo.

He was born Oct. 6, 1963, at Lawrence, the son of Joseph and Mary C. Seyler. He was a 1982 graduate of Santa Fe Trail High School. He grew up in Topeka and Overbrook.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1988-1992. He sailed as an electrician for the Merchant Marines from 1998-2013.

He was married to Teresita Bedrijo from 1992-1998.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Eric Allen Stinebaugh

Dec. 13, 1976 - Dec. 31, 2013

OSAGE CITY—Eric Allen Stinebaugh, Melvern, died Dec. 31, 2013, near Osage City. He was 37.

He was born Dec. 13, 1976, at Ottawa, the son of Roger and Debbie Allen Stinebaugh. He lived most of his life around the Melvern community.

He graduated from Marais des Cygnes Valley High School in 1995, where he played football and was active in 4-H and FFA. He worked as a truck driver and did mill wright work for Mid-States Materials.
