Betty Jean Hanna

Oct. 28, 1941 – June 14, 2018

TOPEKA — Betty Jean Hanna, Lyndon, died Thursday, June 14, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 76.

She was born Oct. 28, 1941, at Clebit, Okla., the daughter of Curtis and Thelma Needham Hinton. She lived in Lyndon since 1960.

She worked as a keypunch operator, unemployment computer room supervisor, then as a computer programmer for the State of Kansas for 23 years. She was a Sunflower Stepper and was a member of the Lyndon Salt Creek Lighthouse Assembly of God Church.

John Hagen

July 29, 1930 – June 8, 2018

OLATHE — John Hagen, Melvern, died Friday, June 8, 2018, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe. He was 87.

He was born July 29, 1930, at St. Louis, Mo., the son of John and Beatrice Baldwin Hagen. He lived in Melvern for a number of years and was in Olathe for the last year.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force at the rank of Master Sergeant after 26 years of service. He was a member of Melvern American Legion Post No. 317 and Melvern United Methodist Church.

Faye Barnwell

Dec. 28, 1938 – June 4, 2018

TOPEKA — Faye Barnwell, Topeka, died Monday, June 4, 2018, at Plaza West. She was 79.

She was born Dec. 28, 1938, the daughter of Hubert Austin and Beatrice Rebecca McClure Thornburgh. She was a homemaker.

She married James E. "Jim" Barnwell July 20, 1964, at Crossville, Tenn. He preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1999.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, a sister and a niece.

David M. Jensen

March 10 1942 – May 31, 2018

TOPEKA — David M. “Dave” Jensen, Reading, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 76.

He was born March 10, 1942, at Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of David and Marcia Fleenor Jensen.

He married Jane Marshall June 21, 2002 at Topeka. She survives of the home.

Kahler Capital Murder Case

We have received the following information from Osage County Attorney Brandon Jones: "Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen is airing a story about the Kahler capital murder case this Wednesday at 9 AM on Topeka KTMJ-FOX Channel 43 or 1 PM on KC-WDAF Fox 4 in Kansas City. James "Kraig" Kahler was convicted of capital murder in August, 2011, for the November, 2009, killing of his estranged wife, his two daughters, and his wife's grandmother here in Osage County, Kansas. He currently sits in the Kansas Department of Corrections on death row while the appellate process moves forward."

Bettys Celebrate 65 Years of Marriage

Charles and Viola Beatty will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary June 6 with a family dinner.

They began dating before they graduated from Lyndon High School. After Charles served two years in the Army, they settled on a farm southeast of Lyndon. Farming was mostly hay for the horses Charles raised or trained. He became a well-known auctioneer, with Viola assisting as a clerk or cashier. In 1974, they opened Beatty’s Western Wear in Lyndon and retired in 2008 from this endeavor. After living on Highway 68 for 62 years, they moved to 1126 Gum Rd., Lyndon.

Glen Lewis

Sept. 16, 1950 – June 2, 2018

POMONA — Glen Lewis died Saturday, June 2, 2018, at his home near Pomona. He was 67.

He was born Sept. 16, 1950, at Ottawa, the son of George and Elizabeth Neill Lewis. He grew up in Quenemo and lived there until moving to Pomona in 1986. He graduated from Quenemo High School in 1968 as valedictorian.
