Janet Lorraine Howard

July 11, 1937 – March 19, 2019

COMANCHE, Texas — Janet Lorraine Howard, Lyndon, died Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Comanche, Texas. She was 81.

She was born July 11, 1937, at Holyoke, Colo., the second of five daughters to Glen and Winnie Kepler Alberts. She grew up in Holyoke and lived at Glen Elder until moving to Lyndon in 1967.

Jesse Hall Sr.

Feb. 13, 1922 – March 20, 2019

OTTAWA — Jesse Hall Sr., Quenemo, died Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Ottawa. He was 97.

He was born Feb. 13, 1922, at Woodlake, Neb., the son of Thomas and Mary Jessep Hall. He attended school at Boatman School, Nemaha County, Neb., and lived in Falls City, Neb. He lived in Hiawatha, before moving to Quenemo.

He farmed for several years and then worked unloading coal cars in Nebraska. He worked at Monarch Egg Plant, Hiawatha, until retiring in 1984.

James Walker Smith

Dec. 6, 1934 – March 14, 2019

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — James Walker Smith died March 14, 2019, at Springfield, Mo. He was 84.

A Celebration of Life will be 2 p.m. Sunday March 24 at Hillcrest Presbyterian Church, 818 E. Norton Road, Springfield, Mo., with Reverend Jack Carmack officiating. Visitation will be held, at the church, following the service.

Opal Morine Ireland

OVERBROOK — Opal Morine Ireland, Overbrook, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 88.

She was born Nov. 6 1930, at Dearborn, Mo., the daughter of William Albert Richey and Laura Catherine Mauzey Richey. She grew up in the Kansas City area attending Wyandotte High School, Kansas City.

Tonoleta “Connie” Lomax

Dec. 8, 1925 – March 13, 2019

TOPEKA — Tonoleta “Connie” Nations Lomax, Osage City, died Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. She was 93

She was born Dec. 8, 1925 at Brownsville, Texas, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Allein Staggs Nations.

She married Leonard Earl Nech in Texas. He preceded her in death. Later, she was joined in marriage to Virgil Lomax. He also preceded her in death.

She was a loving homemaker and mother, all her life.

Mary Louise Hoy

Aug. 6, 1950 – March 14, 2019

OVERBROOK — Mary Louise Hoy, Overbrook, died March 14, 2019, at her home. She was 68.

She was born Aug. 6, 1950, at Twin Mound, the daughter of Floyd Trout and Mary Alice Schirmer Trout. She was a lifelong Osage County resident graduating from Overbrook High School with the class of 1969.

She married Lloyd Hoy Jr., Feb. 21, 1969, at her parents’ home at Twin Mound. They just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He survives of the home.

Britta Sue Browning Whitaker

Dec. 13, 1959 – March 11, 2019

TOPEKA — Britta Sue Browning Whitaker died Monday, March 11, 2019, at her home in Topeka. She was 59.

She was born Dec. 13, 1959, at Topeka, the daughter of Richard and Marla Schultz Browning. She grew up in Topeka, where she graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1977. She also lived in Bremerton, Washington, Kansas City and Gardner before moving back to Topeka.

She worked in banking for many years and was a trustee officer. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Vassar.
