Dean Gilbert Gardner

Feb. 12, 1926 – Aug. 23, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Dean Gilbert Gardner, life long resident of Osage City, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Vintage Park of Osage City. He was 91.

He was born Feb. 12, 1926, at Osage City, the son of Jess E. and Cecelia A. Kiwitter Gardner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had built, owned and operated Dean’s Drive-In and Dean’s Restaurant in Osage City for 37 years.

Stolen items recovered after car burglaries

OSAGE CITY – Stolen items, including handguns, were recovered by the Osage County Sheriff’s Department last week after a rash of burglaries from vehicles.
The sheriff’s department executed a search warrant at a residence on Sept. 12 at 214 S. Sixth St. in Osage City. The warrant was related to several car burglaries in the Osage City area the night of Sept. 7 or early morning hours of Sept. 8, according to a press release.
Numerous stolen items were recovered, including handguns.

William Ray Trueblood

Oct. 13, 1939 – Sept. 17, 2017

OSAGE CITY — William Ray Trueblood died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 77.

He was born Oct. 13, 1939, at Barclay, the son of Claude L. and Ellen Marconett Trueblood. He attended Osage City High School and graduated with the class of 1957.

He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1960. After serving for 30 years he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1990.

He married Shirley Scott Sept. 4, 1960, at Osage City. They would late divorce.

Sharon Ann Moon

Dec. 9, 1955 – Sept. 17, 2017

TOPEKA — Sharon Ann Moon, Topeka, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at a Topeka hospital. She was 61.

She was born Dec. 9, 1955, at Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of William Harold and Billie Jo Davis Forkner.

Sharon worked as a medication aide for several local nursing homes. She loved to sew and crochet but most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids.

She married Jimmy Peterson, they were later divorced. She married Thomas L. Moon June 25, 1984, at Odessa, Texas. He survives of the home.

Phyllis Ann Sluder

July 23, 1930 – Sept. 15, 2017

OTTAWA — Phyllis Ann Sluder, Quenemo, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at the Ottawa Retirement Village. She was 87.

She was born on July 23, 1930, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of John and Grace Scherer Rusk. She grew up in Kansas City and lived in Tonganoxie before moving to rural Quenemo in 1970.

She graduated from the University of Missouri and worked for AT&T as an assistant engineer. She then earned a teaching degree from Emporia State University and taught elementary school for 15 years at USD 456.

Nona Maurine Adams

Dec. 22, 1923 – Sept. 13, 2017

LAWRENCE — Nona Maurine Adams, Osage City, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. She was 93.

She was born Dec. 22, 1923, at Manhattan, the daughter of Albert Edward and Mary Lee Turner Waterstradt. She graduated from Chapman High School in 1941. She earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas in 1945 and a master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University in 1972.

SFT undefeated after 36-28 win

BURLINGTON — The Santa Fe Trail Chargers remain undefeated after a win against the Burlington Wildcats 36-28 Friday Sept. 8 in Burlington.

The Chargers took an early 8 point lead in the first quarter and by halftime had accumulated 22 points to Burlington’s 12.

Player Andrew Berckefeldt had a quarterback rating of 105.4 with 164 yards, Will Herren had three touchdowns and 141 yards and Angel Esparza had two touchdowns and 150 yards.

Peggy Ann Schreiber

Feb. 23, 1941 ¬– Sept. 13, 2017

LAWRENCE — Peggy Ann Schreiber died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She was 76.

She was born Feb. 23, 1941, at Osage City, the daughter of William and Neva Karnes Mathieu. She grew up in Osage City. She lived in Hoyt before moving to Lyndon in 1982 and lived there until 2012 when she moved to Lawrence. She graduated from Osage City High School in 1959.

She worked for the State of Kansas on the Board of EMS for 26 years until her retirement in 2003. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Vassar.

Shawn Campbell Harmon

Died – Sept. 8, 2017

CARBONDALE — Shawn Campbell David Harmon, Carbondale, finished his final lap Friday, Sept. 8, 2017. He was 20.

He graduated from Santa Fe Trail High School. He was working at Hayden Tower Service, a job most would be terrified to do but one he absolutely loved.
